journal prompts for moving forward

Being stuck in life feels like being in a black hole. You want to climb out of the hole but can’t see anything and can’t find a rope or a ladder. It leaves you feeling scared, anxious, and confused. The world seems to pass by you while you are remaining in the same place.

You realize that you need to get out of your current situation, but you are held back by a stronger power of not knowing what to do to change your situation.

In today’s post, you’ll find six deep questions to ask yourself when you are feeling stuck in life. Not to mention, some tips on what you can do to make it happen. Use the questions as journal prompts for clarity to help you figure out what to do next in life.

6 Powerful Journal Prompts for When You Feel Stuck

Grab your journal and a pen, and get ready to move forward in your life. Below you’ll find six powerful journal prompts to help you get unstuck!

1. Am I expecting too much from myself?

Reconsider your expectations of yourself. You cannot do everything perfectly. It’s normal to feel disappointed in yourself when you don’t meet your expectations.

You’re stealing your own joy by comparing yourself to others and having such high expectations that you don’t think you’re enough. This kind of mindset will keep you in a rut.

2. What goals would I like to achieve?

Living without having goals, passions, or any purpose is one of the fastest ways to get stuck in life. You can’t do anything without a sense of direction. Now that you’re stuck in a hole, the only way out is upwards. How can you do that?

Another great thing to do is to create a vision board (you can even do it in your journal if you prefer that). Add pictures and words of things you find inspiring on the vision board. Briefly document what you want to achieve. They can be large or small. And how will this help you?

Writing down your goals is helpful, but it’s not enough. A vision board is a visual representation of your goals which makes them feel more within reach.

3. How much time do I spend trying to improve myself?

Are you possibly stuck because you have not been trying to expand your knowledge? Are there any skills you wish to learn? Think about what can benefit you. Take into consideration the amount of time you spend on mind-numbing social media platforms and other things that don’t help you grow.

Now think about how much time you could spend reading something to help improve your life, learning a skill, or picking up a new hobby. Decide to do one thing to improve yourself. Then stick with it and see how much progress you’re making.

4. Do I have friends that motivate me?

Do you choose your friends carefully? Whether it’s friends you meet with regularly or virtually, the people around us influence us more than we care to admit. So what can you do? Try expanding your circle of friends.

Now try to find a friend who is on the same path as you, shares the same interests, or can teach you something new. How will this help? Ultimately, you’ll be surrounded by like-minded people and motivated to live the life of your dreams.

5. How willing am I to get out of my comfort zone?

When was the last time you did something interesting that you regularly would not do? Sometimes it helps to just go away for a while and change your environment for a few days.

Often we feel stuck in life because we get too comfortable with the physical place where we are and all the convenient things around us. Do you want to change your job? Apply for new jobs. Do you want to be in a relationship? Go out and meet new people. Do you want to travel? Book the trip and go.

If you don’t have the money to go away or don’t have time, do something you wouldn’t normally do or something spontaneous. Anything that will help you step out of your comfort zone. It helps keep things interesting and takes you out of your everyday routine.

6. Do I show gratitude for the things I enjoy?

Gratitude lists can help us do just that. Write down the things you are grateful for, even the smallest ones. Doing this regularly will help you see all the things you have in life to appreciate them more.

You’ll find something good to let your dark feelings shine through. Even the smallest spots of light brighten a dark hole. Recognize and cherish these beautiful moments.

Remember, just because you feel stuck doesn’t mean you actually are. If you feel stuck, move. You are in control of your life. If you take actions you can take now, you won’t be stuck anymore.

Discover what you truly want in your life and start working towards it. And remember, the more things you try, the more likely it will be for you to find the path for you.
