What are Soul Guides & How to Connect With Them

Guest post by Vasundhra Gupta

Metaphysical conversations are my jam! I’ve spent the last half-decade or so exploring the different aspects of the soul: from going into the depths of my past lives, to reading mind-blowing books from doctors and spiritual seekers around the world; and from experiencing different levels of consciousness through meditative practices, to intellectualizing the many layers covering our soul.

Along those lines, recently, the conversation around connecting with our soul guides has been one of utmost fascination for me as well as my blog readers. And in a recent community workshop, here were some of the insights we unpacked together.

What Are Soul Guides?

Before we get into that, I’d like to talk about what soul guides are. Think of soul guides as spiritual mentors from the “beyond” that are helping us learn our lessons on Earth and supporting us whenever we get stuck. They are like our personal spiritual army, often working behind the scenes to help make life easier. How? I’ll describe that in this article.

For those of us that may not have been initiated into conversation with our soul guides, it can seem confusing whether we have them. And based on my first-hand experience as well as metaphysical studies, rest assured, we all have this spiritual support system looking after us. In the following paragraphs, I will detail how we can identify they’re here, how to make more conscious contact with them, and how to use their help to accelerate our growth.

Personal Experience of After Life Regression & Connecting With My Soul Guides

The reason soul guides fascinate me so much is because not a lot is spoken about our spiritual army, looking after us from behind the scenes. Even in Hinduism, the religion I grew up in, we had dialogues about different Gods, DemiGods, saints, etc who we could pray to, to ask for support with our journey. However, the idea about soul guides is quite different. Here’s more of my direct experience with them, and context on how I was able to establish that connection.

The healing modality of past-life regression is where we go into a different lifetime to see:

  • different roles we’ve played (from a carpenter to a prostitute, we’ve been MANY things)
  • what challenges we were faced with,
  • our strengths and growth opportunities,
  • soul contracts we had with other souls to help us fulfill our soul’s learning,
  • and so on.

Through such a modality, there’s a huge perspective shift in how we see ourselves. As we bring that wisdom into the present life, it helps disidentify with some of our problems from the current situation, knowing that we’ve dealt with similar things over and over across lifetimes.

Now if we take that up another notch, there’s the concept of after life regression. It’s an in-between life experience. We are in a sort of limbo state – neither identified to a past life nor a future/present one. In other words, you become aware that there’s more to you than the body (vessel) you occupy for your spiritual growth.

In this state, is where the magic can happen! When I went for an afterlife regression, I could not only feel myself beyond my lives, I could see other souls with me: my soul guides. And in those moments, I felt as though I was “one” with them. There was no judgment when I was in this state of superconsciousness. It wasn’t like a teacher or student hierarchy. Our guides are beyond a human level concept of what we would imagine them to be. I could hear my soul guides talking and it felt like we were collaborating on the experiences I had/was going to have.

Because I had just completed my past life regression review moments before, my guides were reviewing that lifetime with me and giving me insights on how I could integrate the wisdom I received from my past, in my current life. The energy felt very different, there was zero attachment in the way we humans have for each other, but there was enormous love, acceptance and belonging.

They were there just for me, as long as I was there (superconscious state). The closest way I can explain this experience is using a contrasting example. So think of a time when you are with a friend – they may come in with their own agenda, issues, and struggles that can sometimes dilute what you’re seeking support on. Of course this is beautiful in its own ways. However, soul guides have laser-focused attention on us. It feels as if they hold an infinite amount of space for us to think, feel, share, ask questions, and so on. There’s no rush, as time is not a concept “up there”, so you have full dominion over what you’re experiencing, at your own pace.

How Can You Tell That Your Soul Guides Are Speaking to You?

This is my favorite question! And here are some telltale signs that your soul guides are whispering divine insights in your ear:

  • Synchronicities in daily life like feathers, 11:11 on the clock, overhearing relevant advice as a stranger passes by, etc. It’s all part of divine guidance!
  • Self-coaching moments: One of the community members shared how she will often talk to herself, having a long conversation with herself. And she’ll find some really great pieces of advice coming through, which doesn’t usually come within day-to-day thinking.
  • Saying the right thing at the right time: Similarly, I find sometimes that during my coaching calls with clients, insights come through which feel really smart! And I humbly realize that, “that’s not my brain”, and it was coming from a higher consciousness.
  • Searching for something in the market and suddenly having the nudge to turn around and look at EXACTLY the right aisle and product that you need.

In this way, there are SO many things that happen, often subtle and missable. But as my clients and I tune into these little whispers, the presence of divine support becomes loud and clear. And through these direct sharings, I invite you to slow down and look at the possibilities with which your soul guides might be working with you on a daily basis.

Tips to Connect With Soul Guides

Knowing what I know now about my relationship with soul guides, and of course, the incredible evidence-based writings of Dr. Michael Newton, I’d like to offer some tips on how you can connect with your soul guides and experience deeper levels of love, support and guidance.

Perhaps the time we most need help is the time we’re feeling alone, lost or confused. This is what I like to call the stage of surrender, where we actively ask the Universe for divine intervention

However, when you are in a bad place, feeling frustrated, hating life, etc the soul guides will not be able to get their message across. It can seem like they don’t care, but it’s quite the opposite. They’re not able to get through to you. And there’s science behind this.

Feeling hopeless, or on the opposite end of the spectrum, enraged, means we are outside our window of intolerance; in other words, our nervous system is preparing to fight/flight/freeze. In such moments, our entire physiology is changing. We only look out for danger and threat, and are planning ways to deal with threat. This was helpful when we were running from wildlife in the jungle, but in reality, there is rarely a “save your life” situation. However, the mind can’t tell the difference between a physical and physiological threat.

Outside our window of intolerance we are no longer attuned to listen to all the guidance that could be coming through because our physiology isn’t receiving it. While our guides are here to support us and communicate in different ways, the most important tip is that we have to be open to receiving from them.

Here are some techniques to help you come back into your window of tolerance and connect with your soul guides:

  • Deep breathing: When you realize your body is reacting in this way, with your intention, you can calm down by focusing on long, deep breaths. This can help your heartbeat normalize and the survival hormones settle down. Within a few minutes of reminding yourself that you’re safe and willing to be supported by divine guidance, you can prepare your vessel to receive wisdom and knowledge.
  • Disidentify from the suffering: It’s okay to want to put blame on your guides, after they communicate with you. But remember there is nothing personal in the stuff that’s happening to you – it is all simply a part of the grand scheme of the Universe’s unfoldment. However, don’t get stuck in the unconscious pattern of blaming, as our guides cannot work with us at a level where we are in a ‘why me’, victim mentality.
  • Focus on the bigger picture: As we let our nervous system settle down, it helps to focus on the bigger picture. Over time, we want to cultivate the understanding that there is support and we can get through this. It’s not the end of the world and we are just looking for options to guide us down the best possible path for us.

Beyond the moments you are feeling upset, here are other methods to connect with your spiritual guides:

  • Go for a regression session. This can be a more expensive option, but for those that are seeking professional support, a spiritual hypnotherapist can be one of the better investments we make in our healing journey.
  • Look up meditations on YouTube to connect with your spiritual army. It may take a few attempts to help you find the one that “connects”, but many of my clients have found success through this approach.
  • Dream Work – Ask questions or for insights right before bed. And then trust that the answers to these questions may not come through straight away but they will come. Maybe on a subconscious or unconscious level. The answers may occur in the dream or in your day to day activities it might just CLICK.

Concluding Thoughts

There are so many possibilities that unfold for us when we open our minds and lives to receiving support from the spiritual realm. If you’d like to read more stories, tips, and insights, I have a dedicated blog article here to compliment what I’ve shared here today. Happy soul guide connecting!

  1. Outside of our window of intolerance is something I did not have a name for until I read your article. I recognize now that I was unintentionally living outside of my window of intolerance since childhood when I contracted Lyme Disease and was not diagnosed properly. I think this is one area concerning this topic that needs to be given notice, simply because when the physical body causes different emotional states/frequencies that manifest due to for instance, brain inflammation or a systemic infection, this can take someones ability to reach frequencies needed in order to manifest things into their lives. This is where it is no longer free will per say, predestined perhaps, but free will is out the door. You can’t talk yourself out of brain inflammation or go to therapy and rationalize sepsis. You have to recognize these symptoms as what they are and not label them and try to cover them up for comfort with prescription drugs. It is very hard to change your life for the better when your body is operating on such a low frequency which is produced by poor physical health. that is just my personal experience so I figured I would throw it out there. Thank you for your articles, they are very insightful and right on the money.
